Stephen Jessup has been elected to the Southeastern Bank Board of Directors. In announcing Steve’s election, Jay Torbert, President of Southeastern Bank, stated: “Sheriff Jessup has dedicated the majority of his career to public service while also operating a successful business for a number of years. His in-depth knowledge of our local community and sound business acumen will prove beneficial to our Board.”
Originally from Dublin, Georgia, Jessup moved to McIntosh County in 1978 to serve as the County’s first Director of Leisure Services. He was elected to serve on the McIntosh County Board of Commissioners from 1987 – 2004 and again from 2007 – 2008. In 2009, Jessup began his tenure as the County Sheriff. He also owned and operated several convenience stores in Darien and Eulonia for over 35 years. Jessup is a graduate of the University of Georgia.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jessup is active in other community and civic affairs. Jessup is a past president of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes and annually sponsors a golf tournament to raise funds for the Homes and its programs for at-risk youth. He also previously served on the Boards of both the Coastal Regional Commission and the Coastal Area District Development Authority. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Darien.
Jessup and his wife Nora have two children and three grandchildren. In his spare time, Jessup enjoys being outdoors, particularly hunting & fishing, and spending time with family.
