Be vigilant as fraudsters take advantage of uncertainty among both individuals and business owners during these difficult times. Scammers might text, email or call you, asking for banking information or claiming they can help you with COVID-19 payments or relief. Don’t give any personal information to someone you don’t know who is soliciting you. The IRS, Treasury Department and other agencies will not call, text or email you to collect account, Social Security, credit card or other information. And be extra cautious when online: For example, verify the legitimacy of websites you visit and don’t click on unknown links received via email or otherwise, which may expose you to malware. Take advantage of internet and mobile banking options so you can better monitor your accounts. Bottom line, hold all your account information, passwords and other personal information sacred.
